In 1995, UNESCO designated April 23 as World Book Day, a global celebration of reading, books, and authors’ rights. In Germany, this special occasion is marked with a grand reading festival throughout the country.
To promote the joy of reading and improve literacy skills among young learners, each year ‘Stiftung Lesen’, along with other bookshops in Germany, gift one World Book Day book under the campaign ‘I’ll Give You a Story’ to more than a million 4th and 5th Class students at the end of April. The aim is to inspire children to read with exciting stories and to strengthen their reading skills. This initiative is also geared towards children learning German as a second language.
To mark UNESCO’s World Book Day, the German department here at St. Kilian’s is delighted to provide each of our 4th and 5th class students with a copy of this year’s book ‘Volle Fahrt ins Abenteuer’. Our special thanks goes to Hansen & Kröger, the bookshop that made it possible for the school to participate in this worthy campaign!
We hope that all our students will take delight in their new books and wish them happy reading!
If you are now interested in this year’s book, you are invited to watch the interview with the author Katharina Reschke and the illustrator Timo Grubing.
