St. Kilian’s Senior Girls squad travelled out to Blackrock last week to catch up on a long-standing fixture previously postponed by bad weather.
Their opponents – Sion Hill – occupied the same position in the league table so it was all to play for. While the Kilian’s team was shorn of a couple of regulars the girls gladly welcomed the assistance of top Minor players Hannah Doyle-Wahl, Lily Little, Clara Rohling, and keeper Ella Lohan.
Indeed it was one of the mighty Minors that broke the deadlock to give St. Kilian’s a long overdue victory, with Hannah Doyle receiving a long ball from Ella Cullivan with confidence in the circle to round the centre backs and calmly slot the ball into the corner giving the Sion Hill keeper no chance. Well done Hannah, but no surprise to the coaching team as Hannah is both Minor Girls captain and top scorer in the school this season.
A 1-0 win and 3 points was a welcome return after a busy period of LC and JC mocks and extended TY work experience cycles for the girls. When the league wraps up, senior captain Alana Brennan is looking forward to “friendly season” and the return of the Kilian’s home blitz.
