The combined St. Kilian’s and LFI delegation represented both schools last weekend at the Wesley College Model United Nations as the Republic of Slovenia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea).
Six students from the German school – Sophia (12A), Victoria (12B), Nadia (12B), Paula (10C), Aadishesh (11A) and Eliska (12B) – and six from the LFI – Swann, Carissa, Elodie, Cyrielle, Clemence and Timothé – debated for half of Friday, 23rd and the whole Saturday 24th of February 2024 on resolutions ranging from the Yugoslav Wars (Historical), the Right to Education for Displaced Persons, to Diplomatic Relations with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Students asked numerous Points of Information, made speeches for and against the topics at hand and voted for the resolutions in the committees and General Assembly. Congratulations and well done to all involved. A shout out to Eliska, who won ‘Commended Delegate’ for representing Slovenia in the Security Council.
We all finished the weekend with a better understanding of world affairs and friendly connections with students from across Ireland and Europe.
This conference marks the starting point for the future endeavours of the MUN club at Kilian’s and the LFI. One of the next steps is to organise an internal MUN in the school for interested students, CharleMUN2024.
