A huge congratulations to the members of the joint LFI/St. Kilian’s EU/Model United Nations Club and all teachers involved on a fantastic and very successful first ever in-house Model European Council Conference 2024 held by St. Kilian’s Deutsche Schule and the Lycée Français International Samuel Beckett on Tuesday, 10th of December at the Eurocampus Dublin.
In this memorable event, students from across Ireland, including several delegations from LFI and St. Kilian’s, came together to represent a European country of their choice and to discuss and negotiate several proposals on different European topics. We are proud to have hosted delegations from 11 different schools across Ireland and their teachers. We were also honoured to have welcomed distinguished guest-speakers to our inaugural conference. We enjoyed a welcoming address by Mr Patrick O’Riordan, Public Relations Officer at the European Parliament Liaison Office followed by insights on diplomacy and important elements of negotiating by the cultural counsellors from both German and French Embassies, Dr. Wolfram von Heynitz and Monsieur Xavier D’Argoeuves. We were also honoured to welcome Mrs Maeve von Heynitz, Director General, European Union Division at the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, who shared valuable insights into her work and the workings of the European Union.
The event, the first of a kind at the Eurocampus, provided a great opportunity to experience politics and democracy in action at a time when democracy seems at stake in many places in the world. A big thank you goes to our guest-speakers, the organizing teachers, Herr Ringholz, Herr Weyers and Mr Moore and of course all delegates, our own and those who joined us from all across Ireland, who have put a lot of work into this event and also were wonderful young European citizens helping to create a brighter future for the EU.
