Primary Hockey
The 5th/6th boys and girls competed in their respective leagues this season, with all four teams competing in every match they played, against strong opposition. A few of the result came down to fine margins against us, but I’m sure the players have gained a lot of experience going into 6th class and 7th class next year. Two 6th class teams also competed in the AIJS hockey blitz tournament in Dundalk Grammar school, where both teams played beautiful hockey, and advancing to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, it wasn’t an all-Kilian’s final with only one of the teams winning the Semi-Final on penalty shootouts. In the final, St. Kilian’s lost to Sutton Park which meant St. Kilian’s came second in the tournament. A great achievement for all involved.
The 4th class boys and girls also participated in an AIJS hockey blitz tournament in St. Andrew’s college. Both teams competed in every game they played winning all their games in the group stages. In the semi-finals both lost and unfortunately, both teams didn’t make it to the finals and thus ending our tournament. The boys and girls should be very proud of how they played and behaved during the tournaments.
Secondary Hockey
All the secondary school hockey teams competed in various leagues this season, which made for a busy schedule, as all the matches needed to be played by certain dates. Well done to all the pupils who competed this year. A few special mentions go to the senior girl’s team, who made the league semi-final this year after going the whole season unbeaten. They lost their first match of the year in the semi-finals, which for this group of players was their first semi-final for St. Kilians. The minor boys hockey team have only lost 2 games this season. They have been the standout team in their league this season. They won the division 2 league, and they deserve it and should be very proud of themselves.
The 1st year girl’s hockey team has been the most committed team this year, and this showed in their performance throughout the year. They continued to improve and came 4th in the league. Well done girls and keep your energy and commitment going for next season. The 1st year boys have had a great season. They won the u13 boys’ trophy where they played against Drogheda Grammar school. The boys went 1-0 up in the first half, Drogheda kept the boys at bay until halfway through the second half where the boys scored a second goal to seal the game for St. Kilian’s. The 1st year boys have only lost one match this whole season which is a massive achievement. Well done boys.
Leinster hockey trials
Congratulations to Carlos Culligan (8D), Eoin O’Connor (7C) and Benjamin Rauch (8A) on making it to the next stage of their Leinster trials. Good luck to all three boys for the rest of the process.
Thank you to all the players and coaching staff for their hard work and dedication and to all the parents for their support throughout the season. We look forward to next season.
