On the 30th April 2013 Green School members took to the school campus and beyond to carry out a clean-up as part of the annual National Spring Clean event run nationwide by An Taisce. Primary school students conducted a clean up of the school grounds whilst secondary school students from St. Kilians and LFI focused on Roebuck Road, Clonskeagh and the lane way between UCD and the back of St. Kilians.
Although the roads at first glance seemed reasonably clean a substantial amount of waste was found lurking under hedgerows, in ditches and along the curbs. Students found everything from old cans and bottles to plastic wrappings and papers and collected in total more than ten sacks of rubbish. One group of students even retrieved a handbag which had been dumped in a residential area. All the volunteers were equipped with bags, grabbers and gloves supplied by An Taisce and donned their school jerseys for the day. Some neighbours stopped to congratulate the students on their efforts. Luckily the sun was shining on the day making the job a little easier for all involved. Well done to all who volunteered for making the campus and the local environment a cleaner place and raising attention to the issue of littering and recycling.
