The Young Environmentalists awards are held each year by Eco- Unesco in the Mansion House in Dublin.
In 2012 “The Candle- Lit Concert” carried out by Diane Maguire, Ciara Chambers, Jack Hennessy and Stacey Aleshko was praised heavily by the judges and won the first prize in the senior category for energy conservation.
The concert could be classified as “carbon neutral” and “low energy” (musicians excluded!), i.e. all music was performed on acoustic instruments and electricity was kept to a minimum. Not only did it try to raise awareness for an environment-friendly life style, it also gave students an opportunity to meet up with their peers and find out about their classmates’ hidden musical talents.
“Stomp” is the name of the young environmentalist’s entry 2013. Transition year students Anna Heisterkamp, Leah Cullen, Catey Clarkson, Katie Mullen and Brian Reynolds worked together to create a short stop motion film with an environmental focus and won the first prize in the categorty Senior Art & Design Category Winner.
