Academic Life at St. Kilian’s Deutsche Schule
The academic success of the pupils at St. Kilian’s is underpinned by a positive work ethic and an inclusive yet challenging environment. We encourage independent thinking and a curiosity which drives the desire to learn.
The aims of the curriculum are to give each pupil a broad education, especially in the early stages, and to develop the student’s intellectual powers to the best of his/her ability, while at the same time providing the student with a level of proficiency in German. ( which separates him or her from their peers.)
Classes 7 to 9 follow the Junior Certificate curriculum which on completion enables students to choose their Leaving Certificate subjects with confidence. Classes 11 and 12 concentrate on the Leaving Certificate curriculum in connection with the German Language and Literature/ Bi-lingual Leaving Certificate course. Pupils normally take at least seven subjects for the Leaving Certificate. All students aim to attend universities either in Ireland or abroad and the vast majority secure places at University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin and the Dublin Institute of Technology. At all stages we aim to inspire and stretch bright young minds, to encourage our students to embrace the challenges of a multi-cultural Europe and to aspire to fluency in German. We believe that the size of the school does matter, St. Kilian’s remains small enough for every pupil to feel that he or she has received individual attention.
