Religious Education is taught once a week in the senior cycle. Rather than focus on one particular religion the focus in St. Kilian’s is to use the subject to contribute to the holistic development of the students by introducing them to religion in the broad sense of the term to introduce them to ethics and relationships and sexuality education. It encourages the student’s capacity to reflect on issues that affect the individual and all of humankind on a personal and societal basis. In Transition year major there is a focus on projects to involve students and encourage them to reflect on the circumstances of those who are disadvantaged in society on local, national and international levels. Accordingly, a significant element of the focus in the TY Programme while not strictly under the Heading of Religion or RSE is for students to take on projects which respond to the needs of those on the margins of society, through a variety of fundraising projects throughout the year. In the Junior Cycle elements of the Religion and RSE Course are covered in the subject SPHE.
