Match Report
Minors find rich vein of golden goals on their passage to finalMinor B semi-final
Having won the under 13 B league last year our minors are now in the minor B final looking to do the double. The line-up: Daniel Sheerin GK, Mark Donovan, Hugh Hartnett, Jake Dempsey, Rod McAuliff, Jake Nourse, Ben McTiernan, Cian Walley, Michael Brennan, Louis Prehn, Oisin Wynn, Cian Griffiths, Thomas O Grady, Cai Bocus, Alex. From the start we were all over Sandford Park with Captain Jake Nourse driving the team forward. Jake Dempsey was seeing lots of ball trying to set up Ben and Hugh. After 13 minutes we won a corner. The ball swept out to Rod who smashed a rocket of a shot across the keeper to put us 1-0 up. After a huge amount of pressure Hugh Harnett scored a cracker to put us 2-0 up.
Half Time St. Kilian’s 2, Sandford Park 0
From the start of the second half we poured forward and had a Sandford under pressure. Cian Walley smashed a ball in and it deflected up of a Sandford stick and Hugh Harnett somehow got a touch and deflected the ball into the goal. The snow came down into our faces, but the boys ploughed on and Ben McTiernan returned to scoring form with a cracking goal on the reverse to put us 4/0 up. Good man Ben. We emptied the bench and Alex was unlucky not to score as was Thomas O’Grady. This was an excellent win and all the boys played a part. Roll on the final. The boys are also in the semi-final of the cup. Can they do the double? Come on St. Kilian’s!
Final Score St. Kilian’s 4, Sandford Park 0
Man of the Match: Shared by Captain Fantastic Jake Nourse who covers acres in each game and Vice-Captain and centre back Mark Donovan, who stepped forward and broke up Sandford attacks and set up our attacks. Just pipping Jake Dempsey who was brill again down the right and Michael Brennan who was constantly driving down the right with Jake Dempsey.
Goal of the Match: Hugh Harnett who deflected home a high ball. Keeper never even saw it.
