Tom Parsons, Head Coach reports:
What a year of hockey we have had. When the good ship St. Kilian’s left port in September last in search of gold and silver, little did we know that we would have great difficulty sailing back to Clonskeagh, so laden down were we with gold and silver! We had seven teams in the league and cup competitions and we managed to get five into finals, three girls’ teams and two boys’ teams. Some achievement for a small school.
Congratulations to Ms Shelley who managed to get her three girls’ teams to League Finals. The 1st Year Girls secured two pieces of silverware, winning the Leinster School Girls B League and the Dublin South Central Tournament; the Minor Girls were unlucky to lose 3-1 in the Dublin South Central League Final and the Senior Girls made it to the final of the Dublin South Central League, only to lose the game in 1 v 1’s after a closely fought tie ended 1-1. On the boys’ front, coach Mervyn McDowell led our U13 team to the B League title. He also coached the Minor team to our first ever Minor A final.
Goalkeeping
I introduced two sessions a week specially for our goalkeepers and the result has been fantastic. Stephen O’Keeffe is one of the top goalkeeping coaches around and our goalkeepers have improved enormously under his tuition. They have made a huge contribution to our teams making so many finals. Well done Stephen and our goalies!
Player of The Year
We are now deciding the Player of the Year for our boys and girls. A most difficult decision considering the success of so many teams. The winners will be announced at the Sports Awards Evening on the 15th May @ 7pm. Students and their parents are invited to join us to celebrate achievements from the academic year 2016/17.
